In the Legend 10MPF, you will experience a conspiracy theorist bigfoot who is vegan, the legend of Atlantis told through a very riskay book, a world-renowned chef and his bizarre new dish, a couple who run a haunted house featuring "The Night Creature," and the untold story of Baba Yaga!

This play festival will also feature NEW music from the awesome local musical act, Junglecorp - with their new, Legend-themed musical story performed in-between each of the plays!  Junglecorp leaves the audience thoroughly entertained and they are excited to be a part of the LEGEND! Join Ollie Collins and Shane O'Shields for a night of honest entertainment - for the 7th biennial installment of My Americana!

My Americana (2023) is the story of life in Portland, OR. Water Parks. Reverend Ghostman. Dreams. Death. Pancakes. 102 Jamz. Rain. Money. Parades. Happiness. The American Dream. 

First performed in 2011, My Americana is a performance piece with a single stage performer accompanied with a live musician and overhead projections. The show is produced every other year, presenting all new stories, songs and music, while featuring a different musician.

This year's My Americana will feature the talented Shane O'Shields as the musician. Described by some as a mystical, fuzzy, friendly giant, Shane will bring his own flavor of Americana Classical Psychedelia and Blues to this year's My Americana, by playing the cello, guitar, ukulele, drums, tambourine and a kazoo.

From Ollie, the Writer, Director and Stage Performer:
"I put everything into My Americana. It's a chance for me to provide snapshots of an individual, which I believe helps inform the story of a culture. The show is called My Americana, but I've always seen it as Our Americana - it's really about all of us. We strive to make the show less of a performer's cathartic experience and more about an entertaining, thought-provoking and fun time for the audience. At the same time, if you've ever wanted to see me perform passionately and perhaps gain some insight about the crazy man who does the intros at the Ten Minute Play Festivals, this is your chance."

It is Monkey With a Hat On's 30th Ten Minute Play Festival! After doing this show for the past 11 years in Portland, we are so excited to reach this milestone. And what a perfect theme to have for our 30th 10MPF... CHAMPION!

In the Champion 10MPF, you will experience: a gruff 1950s boxing trainer and his dark premonitions about his cat-loving prize fighter; the epic, age-old, cosmic battle between the moon and the fabulous sun; a quiz champion who falls asleep while studying, only to wake up and meet a new friend who tells her all is not what it seems; what happens after a zany zealot hides in a Congresswoman's closet for a year; a famous over-the-top movie star and her practical daughter try to work out their stark differences before a trip to the lake; a money-loving, crazy politician running for president is confronted by his life-long bouncy and friendly companion: his soul.

This play festival will also feature NEW music from the awesome local musical act, Junglecorp - with their new, Champion-themed rock opera story performed in-between each of the plays! Junglecorp leaves the audience thoroughly entertained and they are excited to grace the Monkey stage for the 30th 10MPF! In the Phoenix 10MPF, you will experience: the power of a beloved family pet, when your roommate is the literal worst, the pressure of capitalism on love, when the government tries to clip your wings, when art stops imitating and begins transforming life, the cost of being the giver in a relationship and how hot revealing your darkest secrets can be.

This play festival will feature music from the awesome local musical act, Junglecorp - with their new, Phoenix-themed rock opera story performed in-between each of the plays. The story is called "Phoenix Court" - A magical court case between a phoenix and a leprechaun fighting for custody of their child Goosie.

The Phoenix Ten Minute Play Festival will run about 2.5 hours with a 15 minute intermission.

For our first play festival in 18 months, we decided to go with a theme that we can all relate to right now: Underdog.

In the Underdog 10MPF you will experience one woman's search for an enchanted necklace in a swamp behind a Walmart parking lot, a dystopian survivalist reality show competition between an outdoorsman and a valley girl, two mythological newlyweds who must face the bitter reality of the gods' will, a WWII French resistance fighter who takes refuge in a surly chef's restaurant kitchen, a new take on the complicated relationship between the Mad Hatter and Alice, and a man working from home trying to finish a project while his worst enemy gets in the way.

This play festival will feature music from the awesome local musical act Junglecorp - with their new, Underdog-themed rock opera story performed in-between each of the plays. Junglecorp leaves audience members thoroughly entertained and they are extremely excited to be back on the Monkey stage. Join us for a night of fun, humor and honest entertainment, for the 6th installment of My Americana. Performed every two years starting in 2011, My Americana is a performance piece of story vignettes, songs and projections with a stage performer accompanied with a live musician. This year it is 100% new material!

My Americana is written, directed and acted by Ollie Collins, the Artistic Director of the theater company Monkey With a Hat On and the Portland Ten Minute Play Festival. For this rendition of My Americana, the musician will be Phil Garrison—a videographer and musician who along with being the house musician for the Green Ten Minute Play Festival, has also played in many Portland bands such as The Sun Drunks and Shadowgraphs. Technical Direction will be from the illustrious local artist Josh FItz. 

My Americana (2021) is the story of life in Portland, OR. Star Trek. Tuesday. Partying. Johnny. King Waves. Our Neighborhood. No Fireworks. Dreams. Florida. The Lazy River.

We are theater for everybody: only charging 5 bucks a ticket and we have an open-door policy where anyone can submit a play or try out to be involved. These are your stories, Portland!

In the Shadows 10MPF you will experience the ridiculous lengths someone will go to get rid of their shadow, a not-so-traditional therapy group for those who live in their family's shadows, one woman's showdown with her crafty shadow side and a feisty inner demon, a wild trial between Peter Pan and his shadow, two cell mates wasting away in a dystopian prison, the dark tale of what happens in the underbelly of 1828 Edinburgh, the shadow of a famous fantasy character who is trying to save the character's #1 fan, and the quirky childhood monster that still lurks under your bed.

This play festival will feature music from the awesome local band junglecorp - with their new, Shadows-themed rock opera story performed in-between each of the plays

The show runs 2.5 hours with a 15 minute intermission.

Start off Spring 2020 with a wildly entertaining, fun night of stories about the the one thing that will always follow us around: Shadows!
